Stroke is the 5th leading cause of death and a leading cause of adult disability in the U.S. On average, someone in the U.S. suffers a stroke every 40 seconds, and nearly 795,000 people suffer a new or recurrent stroke each year. Recognizing the first signs and symptoms and acting FAST is crucial in successful treatment and recovery. It’s comforting to know that your community hospital, Coast Plaza Hospital, has met scientific guidelines as a Primary Stroke Center featuring a comprehensive system for rapid diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients admitted to the emergency department.

Patients are cared for by highly qualified health professionals including Emergency Room Physicians with specialized training in Stroke Care, Board-Certified Vascular Neurologists and Neurocritical Care Physicians, allowing citizens in the local communities who are exhibiting the signs of symptoms of a stroke to remain close to home while receiving high-quality critical care.

​Additionally, Coast Plaza Hospital received the American Heart Association’s Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll award. To qualify for this recognition, hospitals must meet quality measures developed with more than 90 percent of compliance for 12 consecutive months for the “Overall Diabetes Cardiovascular Initiative Composite Score.”

  We provide our patients with access to the latest clot retrieval techniques, clot busting medications, as well as life-saving neurosurgical procedures.

• Teleneurology partnership forged with Keck Medicine of USC
  This partnership with Keck Medicine allows our doctors, nurses and patients to interact via video connection directly with the world-renowned physicians of the Keck School of Medicine of USC for critical, life-saving care.

• Integrated Video Remote Interpretation (VRI) Services to perform multiple-specialty sessions and telestroke examinations
  Thanks to our partnership with the Language Access Network, CPH now has the ability to perform telestroke examinations in over 250 languages, including American Sign Language. Because of the Carenection platform which supports multiple specialty sessions, all this is available at the push of a button.

• Certified by The Joint Commission and American Heart Association as a Primary Stroke Center
  The criteria for certification includes stroke education, participation in research, access to advanced imaging technology and demonstration of application and compliance with clinical practice guidelines for Primary Stroke Centers.
